The power of nutrition
Hippocrates, the father of medicine said 2400 years ago “ let your
food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food”.
This idea is even more valid today with our polluted environment, modern
agricultural methods and the prevalence of processed food, lacking many
of the nutrients that our bodies have become used to over millions of
years of evolution.
What is nutrition?
Human Nutrition is a multidisciplinary science that includes biochemistry,
physiology, clinical methods and diets, and that considers emotional,
mental and social factors, illness, drugs and medicines, and lifestyle.
All these factors influence our nutritional status and therefore our health
and well being.
The Role of Nutritional Medicine
Nutritional Medicine looks at how the above factors and nutrition interact
at the cellular level to bring about good health or health problems. Nutritional
Medicine can prevent or treat these health problems by targeting their
root causes.
Nutrition is the provision and management of the food nutrients that make
up our bodies and give us the energy that drives every process in the
living body.
Good health is a person’s most valuable asset and optimal nutrition
is essential for good health. Proper nutrition is even more important
today, for the body to cope with the increased demands and stresses of
modern life. However, neglecting nutrition will lead to serious health
problems. More than 80% of all chronic diseases in industrialised societies
are nutrition related, and they can be prevented or treated using Nutritional
Medicine.
I have seen the fantastic transformation that good nutrition can bring
about, in myself, my clients and in communities. I would like everyone
to discover its extraordinary benefits all of which are achievable without
using any drugs!
